By now most people have seen this video doing the rounds on Social Media. It is created by Gary Turk and calls for society to put down the smart phone, open the doors and socialise outside of social networks. We already see young children glued to the iPad and x-box every spare waking moment. There are less children being encouraged to go outside and play and some believe outside is boring because it has no apps, it’s just sticks, grass and stones. What sort of society will it be if the next generation cannot interact face-to-face? He poses the question “Are you really a good parent if you cannot entertain your children without using an iPad?”
Watch this 5 minute video to the end. It is 5 minutes you’ll never get back, but it may be 5 minutes that change the way you live and socialise.
Are we going to let the next generation grow up glued to the screen? Or are we going to teach them to switch off and go out, socialise and interact with other human beings face-to-face? So:
“Look up from your phone, shut down the display,
take in the surroundings, make the most of today,
just one real connection is all it can take,
to show you the difference that being there can make.”
– Gary Turk
